Brendan Shanahan Calls it a Day

After 21 seasons in the NHL, Brendan Shanahan announced his retirement this past week from the sport.

A native of Mimico, Ontario, Shanahan had two seasons with 50 or more goals while playing with the St. Louis Blues in 1992-93 and 1993-94, and four more seasons with 40 or more goals with the Detroit Red Wings. A former second overall pick in the 1987 NHL Draft of the New Jersey Devils, Shanahan played in 1,524 regular season games, tallying 1,354 points (656 G, 698 A). He was also part of the Red Wings dynasty that won three Stanley Cups, including back-to-back wins in 1997 and 1998, and one more in 2002.

Ironically, Shanahan only had one season with 100+ points. However, his career stands for itself, and he should definitely be a Hall of Famer.

The Bruins Theme to date and Great Moments in Bell Centre history

So I've been searching for theme songs of the 2009-10 Boston Bruins season to date. I had until 10:00 p.m. tonight (that I set for myself) to find something. This is what I came up with...



Maybe this will change, but as of right now, the Undertaker's theme stands.

Part two of my blog tonight has something to do with WWF, WWE or whatever its called these days. No it is not Vince McMahon singing "Stand Back" but this has to do with a "Great moment in Bell Centre history."

And to begin the series - still trying to get Molson to sponsor this - let's go back to November 9, 1997. As the Survivor Series took place at the then Molson Centre, the main event featured to fierce rivals, with honor contempt for one another: Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart.

As Chicago kicks off this week’s edition of Rosie’s Rebounds, I will also open up by saying Greetings from the Windy City.


This weekend the Blackhawks will honor the outspoken but yet talented Jeremy Roenick at the United Center, for Jeremy Roenick Heritage night.

Back From Chicago

I have finally made it back from the Windy City and will be posting more blogs in the next few days, including the past edition of Rosie's Rebounds, that is up currently on Inside Hockey.

Flames Defeat Team Italy, I mean Habs

Once again, the Montreal Canadiens prove that they can don the ugly uniforms. But how could you possibly top last years uniforms that they wore against the Boston Bruins on Super Bowl Sunday? After all, Jack Edwards said it best when he said this after the final buzzer, "The Final, the Bruins 3, the Inmates 1"

Well, the ones they had on display against the Calgary Flames last night were pretty close.

Now I thought the Habs celebrated their Centennial last year, but I guess they had to extend it, since they didn't want their 100th season to look that bad.

So in celebration of season 100.5, the Habs used these uniforms on display.

Tonight is the induction ceremony for the Class of 2009 at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto. Steve Yzerman, Brett Hull, Brian Leetch and Luc Robitaille headline the list of players, and current Devils GM Lou Lamoriello will be the recipient in the builder category.

TSN has a feature on Lou via The Canadian Press and Ray Ferraro pitches in with his thoughts on the 2009 Class.

The Colorado Avalanche had a tough time killing penalties last night in their 5-3 loss to the Edmonton Oilers. Inside Hockey's Arianna Ranahosseini recaps the game from the Pepsi Center.

Speaking of penalties, find out why trips to the sin bin are hurting the Ottawa Senators from Ben McCoy of Inside Hockey.

Buddy Oakes of Preds On the Glass has an interesting lineup for his radio show tonight to say the least. Adrian Dater joins the POTG crew tonight at 8 P.M. Eastern.

A columnist for The Denver Post and a contributor to Versus.com (sigh), Dater has been very critical on the squad in Nashville. His "No Holding Back" column on Hockey in the Music City.

And finally, Inside College Hockey has their Power Rankings this week. While I love the site, and Joe Gladiszewski and company do a great job, sometimes these rankings can be a little off. But yet again, polls are never that accurate, and when the PairWise Rankings come out in January, these rankings take a back seat for a bit.
